CASE STUDIES
citrix metaframe
Area of assistance: Network systems
Technology involved: Citrix MetaFrame, ISDN line
Problem: The client need a reliable network that would give administrators
the ability to monitor youths' online activities. Also, given the remote location
of the institution, network administration must be possible via the Internet
from our offices.
Analysis: A campus-area network was presented that would allow teachers
and administrators to keep track of students' movements on the Internet from
another building on the campus. A server-centric network was also suggested
so that the client could take full advantage of older, donated workstations.
Since the servers would be doing all the work in this environment, there is
a greater deal of flexibility offered in the age and variety of the workstations.
Strategy: Install an ISDN line to connect the campus-wide, server-centric
Citrix MetaFrame. Set up a central admin workstation for the faculty members
to monitor the students' workstations. Connect the workstations to the server
and the server to our facilities for administration.
Conclusion: This system gives the client more effective supervision
of their children's computer activities. It allows Epoch Online to maintain
control, perform diagnostics and repair problems from a remote location. The
system is also capable of using the client's resources more fully by having
the ability to use donated workstations of varying age and type.
