CASE STUDIES
network installation
Area of assistance: Networking
Technology introduced: Cisco 3548 Ethernet switches, SQL 7.0, Access
97
Problem: The client is a rapidly growing Competitive Local Exchange Carrier
(CLEC) moving to a new location and in need of enhanced network capability.
Their 60 user network needed congestion-free bandwidth and increased performance
of their network applications.
Analysis: Client needs unpgraded SQL 7.0 /Access 97 applications and
a Gigabit Backplane network
Strategy: We installed the following:
1. Two Cisco 3548 ethernet switches were installed into the Windows
NT network running a gigabit fiber card.
2. WINS, DNS and DHCP services all were installed and configured.
Conclusion: Microsoft Performance Monitor application reported a 98%
load on each processor prior to our arrival, and now an average 25% load when
all users are logged in to the new custom application. The new system also guarantees
bandwidth to all workstations to alleviate traffic congestion. Performance of
SQL /Access applications were increased by a factor of ten.
